Lorain CCC Women Pull Out Big Win Friday

November 13, 2015 - It was a big afternoon for the Lady Commodores Basketball team as they traveled to Westmoreland Community College in Pennsylvania for their weekend tournament. The Commodores were able to out-scrap Anne Arundel to win the game 62-49.

It has been a common trait for the Lady Commodores to come out the gates quickly and Friday was no different. LCCC jumped out to an early 10-0 lead applying tons of pressure on defense and giving their opponent too much to handle on the offensive side. Unfortunately, the Commodores took their foot off the gas and Anne Arundel was able to claw their way back into the game.

Led by Onyx Lopez, who had a team high of 18 points on the night, the Commodores found themselves in control much of the game. It wasn't until the third quarter where the Commodores found themselves down by three before Coach Granito pulled the troops together.

Besides Lopez, LCCC had three other players in double digits which included Madi Bonner (16 points), Brandi Holowecky (10 points), and Angel Blakely (11 points) who played in her first game of the season.

In the end, it was the team's 44 rebounds, led by Molly Linn, that helped seal the game for the Commodores. "Key to the game was our rebounding over a much taller team. That really made the difference today for us." said Coach Granito.
