Cardinals Fall in Region XX Tournament

CCBC Catonsville's women's basketball team finished their season on March 7, falling 119-55 to sister campus CCBC Essex in the Region XX Tournament.

After clinching a tournament berth with a victory in the last game of the season, the Cardinals struggled against their sister school. Despite the loss, the Cardinals did have four players score in double-digits.

The closest the game would get was during the first two minutes, as Catonsville tied the contest at 2-2 with a layup by freshman forward Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake). Another jump shot by Cabbagestalk would keep the game within one possession until the Knights went on a 9-0 run. Essex would outscore the Cardinals 36-18 at the end of the first.

Held to just ten points in the second quarter, the Cardinals trailed 69-28 entering the half. Things wouldn't get easier in the second half, as Essex continued to pour on the points. 30 Cardinals turnovers contributed to an Essex 119-55 victory.

Cabbagestalk finished the contest with a double-double, scoring 20 points and ten rebounds. Sophomore guard Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point) added ten points, while freshman guard Ah'niya Tillery (Coppin) had ten points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Alfreda Potter (Carroll Christian) ended the season with a career-high 11 points.
