Wild Ending Sends Women's Basketball Past Garrett

McHENRY, MD – Trailing by one with 16.2 seconds left, the Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team completed the comeback to defeat host Garrett College, 67-64, Sunday afternoon.

Sydney Woodland led AACC with 24 points and eight assists. She went eight-of-nine from the charity stripe, sinking three of four free throws over the final minute to help secure the win. Lacey Hinkle scored 13 points, including a three-for-three effort from beyond the arc. Caitlyn Stanberry added 11 points and three steals. Autumn Foster-Fields finished with a double-double scoring 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Trailing 63-59 with 1:27 to play, Woodland brought the ball up the court and found Hinkle wide open for a three-pointer. Woodland tied it up by the swishing the front end of her two free throws on the Riverhawks' next possession.

Garrett retook the lead on a free throw, but Hinkle put the Riverhawks ahead, 65-64, on a long two-pointer with just 12.1 seconds remaining. On the Lakers' next possession, Stanberry set up solidly just inside the lane and took a charge to keep the lead alive. Woodland was fouled on the ensuing inbound play and hit both free throws to ice the game.

The Riverhawks had their best night of the season at the free throw line, sinking 13 of 17 (76.5%), and committed a season-low nine turnovers in the game.

AACC improves to 9-10 overall after winning its first MDJUCO conference game.
