Owls Top No. 10 Brookdale in Home Opener

Prince George's women's basketball took care of business when Brookdale Community College visited Novak Field House for the Owls home opener Sunday November 3rd, defeating the Jersey Blues 82-62. Brookdale entered the season ranked number 10 in NJCAA's Division III Women's basketball preseason rankings.

After an initial back and forth first quarter, the Owls (2-0) found a groove in the final 21 seconds, going on a 7-0 run to head into the break leading 22-17. Prince George's kept rolling in the second quarter, again outscoring the Jersey Blues (0-2) by a score of 21-12 to enter halftime leading 43-29. At the break the Owls were shooting almost 46 percent from three point range, something they struggled with in their previous game against NOVA just two days prior. Prince George's had eight different players who had scored by halftime.

Brookdale came out hot to start the third quarter, outscoring the Owls 17-12 to cut the Owls lead to just 9 points. The Owls then exploded for the final ten minutes, scoring 27 points while allowing the Jersey Blues to score just 16 to hold on for the 82-62 win. The Owls finished with five players who scored in double figures. Freshmen Ashleigh Thorne and India Young led the way for the Owls with both players recording 13 points while adding 4 rebounds each in the victory. Up next for Prince George's is a weekend away at Garrett College in the Garret Classic Tournament where the Owls will face the Community College of Allegheny County and Middlesex County College this Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 pm and 1 pm, respectively.
