Westchester Takes Two From Cecil

NORTH EAST - Cecil baseball dropped both ends of its doubleheader with the Westchester Vikings on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks fell 8-5 in game one and 7-5 in game two.

The losses drop Cecil's record to 1-3 on the year.

Game One - Westchester 8, Cecil 5 - Box Score

The Seahawks struck first in the opener, scoring one run on Justin Cordero sacrifice fly. Chad Francis was able to limit the Vikings to just two runs over the first three innings, but a blunder from Cecil's defense with two outs in the fourth plated three more to give Westchester a 5-1 lead.

Cordero stepped up for the Seahawks again in the bottom of frame, clearing the bases with a three-RBI double to right to pull Cecil within one. However, Francis (0-2) could not keep the Vikings off the board as the visitors scored two on a home run. A bases loaded walk gave Westchester one more run before Ashtin Keith retired the side.

After Cecil standed three runners in the fifth, Cordero doubled with one out in the sixth. The sophomore outfielder scored one batter later on back-to-back Westchester wild pitches. The next five Seahawks went down in order to end the contest.

Cordero finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI and a walk. Four additonal Seahawks ended with one hit apiece.

Game Two- Westchester 7, Cecil 5 - Box Score

Cecil started off hot in game two, scoring three runs in the opening frame. Hunter Sipel started the fireworks with a double to centerfield, scoring Couper Stala. After a wild pitch scored Sipel, Ryan Thompson singled through the left side of the infield drove home Justin Cordero to give the Seahawks a sizeable advantange.

Westechester trickled through a pair of runs in second and third, but a two-RBI triple to right by Ben Campbell extended Cecil's lead back to three. Joel Blanco and Vikings pitcher Joshua Rosario held both teams scoreless in the fourth and fifth.

Blanco (0-1) ran into trouble late in the game, first loading up the bases on two singles and a hit batter in the sixth. A wild pitch, sac fly, and a balk allowed Westchester to tie the game before Blanco recorded his fifth strikeout to stop the bleeding. The sophomore righty then put two Vikings away quickly in the sixth, but hit the following two batters before being removed.

Cecil's bullpen eventually gave up the lead after two walks and another hit batsman, handing Westchester a 7-5 lead. After several defensive changes, Ben Campbell hit the mound and forced the next Vikings batter to line out.

The Seahawks kicked off the bottom of the seventh with a Cordero double, but the next three batters were retired to end the game.

Cecil pitcher Austin Keefer was handed a no decision in his first collegiate start, striking out three over as many innings. Justin Weaver led the Seahawks at the dish with two hits.
