Catamounts Split With Catonsville

Potomac state opened up Region 20 play with a doubleheader against the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts split the day with Cardinals and are now 4-2 on the season. 

Potomac state got off to a good start, but Catonsville would eventually end up taking game 1, 6-4. 

Jamie Kelly got the scoring going for the Catamounts with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second, while pitcher, Charity Wolfe, would keep the Cardinals scorless through the first three innings. Cataonsville would then score a run in each of the next three innings, cutting the Catamounts leads to 1 heading into the seventh. Three unanswered runs would give the Cardinals the lead and win.

Kelly went 3-for-4, had 2 RBIs and scored once in game 1. Alexa Shoemaker also had an RBI and scored a run, Heather Williams went 3-for-3 and Taylor Lamp went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

 

The Catamounts got back to their winning ways in game 2, as they took that game 8-6.

Potomac State's offense put up 9 hits, helping freshman Pitcher Chloe Greise, who pitched 6 innings and struck out 7, making her record 2-1. Kelly recorded the save, pitching the seventh inning.

The bats got rolling early for the Catamounts in game two, scoring 5 runs in the first two innings. The Cardinals fought their way back and took a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom half of the seventh. Three scores from the Catamounts would give the win for game 2.

Meghan Harris and Shaleigh Darlington each doubled and Harris scored once. Shoemaker went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and 1 run. Lamp went 2-for-4, also with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Kelly and Braylee Corbin also had RBIs.

Kelly recorded the save, pitching the seventh inning.

 

 

Potomac State will be in Myrtle Beach, SC next week for the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic where they will play 8 games before returning home for a doubleheader with Corning Community College on Sunday March 17.
