Lady Owls Win Third Straight Region 20 Championship

The top seeded Prince George's Women's Basketball team repeated as NJCAA Region 20 Division III Champions over the weekend with a 60-58 victory over second seed Butler County on Sunday, February 26th. The title returns to Largo for the third straight season after the Owls head coach Devin May won last season in his first year leading the program and Prince George's had previously won in 2020. There was no season held during 2021 due to the pandemic.

The Owls managed to hold the lead for the majority of the final period which appeared to be wrapping up before the Pioneers made a four-point play with 8 seconds remaining to come within one of Prince George's. Butler was forced to foul the Owls on their ensuing possession which sent Tori Tolson to the line where she went 1-for-2. With no timeouts remaining Butler was forced to take a one last final heave at the basket which came up short, sealing the win for Prince George's.

All-American Janiah Williams led the Owls in the win as she finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals and blocks each. Tolson had 13 points to go with 8 rebounds and Vanessa Schwarzmann had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
