Defense Stands Tall in Shutout Win for Women's Soccer

In a rare Sunday showcase, Roadrunner Women's Soccer continued its outstanding defensive play lodging a shutout against Howard College (MD). The defensive trio of McKenna Dowd, Shanna Bryson, and Madison Dorney were effective all afternoon long in limitied the chances for Howard and goalkeeper Jenni DeVault was there to shut down anything that came her way. The win was the 10th shutout for the Roadrunners as they improved to 13-1 overall and helped their head coach Megan Ruttler reach a milestone.

Dorney, a sophomore from Washington Township, played one of the best games of her career shutting down the Howard offense and starting the Roadrunner counter-attack with crisp passes to the midfield. Dowd, a freshman from Williamstown, has emerged as a very steady presence in the back line and works well opposite Dorney. Bryson continued her outstanding play this season by shutting down any chances in the middle of the field and then capped off the game by scoring the teams final goal on a penalty kick in the closing minutes.

Sophomore Torre Flynn and freshman Megan Lord each scored two goals in victory as the Roadrunners offense continued to show a scoring punch that should keep them in the top 5 in the upcoming NJCAA National Rankings. Ashley Engler also scored for the RCGC.

The win marked a milestone for Roadrunner head coach Megan Ruttler who became the all-time winningest Women's Soccer coach at RCGC.  Ruttler's career at RCGC has been stellar as she has led the program to four NJCAA Region 19 titles and a Runner-Up performance at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in 2012.
