DI Harford Holds On to Top Cecil

NORTH EAST, Md. - A late goal from Akiel John and another fantastic day from Aidan Hayes was not enough for Cecil to stop the Fighting Owls of Harford on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams battled through 90 minutes of heat, as the temperature on the turf topped 100 degrees throughout the contest. Harford was able to find a goal early off of a corner kick to make it 1-0 after 16 minutes. A second score put the visitors ahead 2-0 heading into the break.

Hayes insured Cecil did not fall behind any further, making 15 stops across 90 minutes. Despite allowing 42 shots for the game, the sophomore keeper and the rest of Cecil's defense kept the Fighting Owls off the board for the final 53 minutes of the match.

The Seahawks made things interesting in the 79th minute, as a looping pass from Ronaldo King hit Akeil John on his way into the box. The Cecil forward chipped the Harford goalkeeper for home teams first goal of the game with 11 minutes to play.

Late charges from both teams were turned aside, leaving the final score at 2-1 in favor of Harford.

Cecil moves to 0-4-1 with the loss.
