Hocking Slips Past Wolfpack 68-63

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Despite a triple-double by Hannah Hempfield, the Westmoreland County Community College women's basketball team couldn't complete a comeback against Hocking College, who escaped with a 68-63 win Thursday.

Hocking got off to a hot start, hitting their first five shots and continued to shoot well in building a 23-14 lead after one quarter. The Wolfpack answered in the second, outscoring the visitors 21-12 to tie the game 35-35 by halftime. Mackenzie Markle, who had a big game as well, scored 11 by the break and Hempfield had 10 markers and eight assists.

The third quarter proved to be the difference, as Hocking held a 20-12 scoring advantage in the period. In the fourth quarter, the Wolfpack managed to trim the deficit to three late in the game, but Hocking went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 22 seconds to secure the win.

It was a big statistical night for several Wolfpack players, led by Hempfield. She recorded a triple-double by totaling 21 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists. The leading scorer in the game was actually Markle, who posted 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Registering a double-double was Julea Claycomb, as she scored 12 points and hauled down 16 rebounds.

Westmoreland will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Montgomery College. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
