Cardinals Drop Ninth Straight to Montgomery College

On February 24, the Cardinals women's basketball team took on Montgomery College, losing 86-53. 

The Cardinals have been in a rough stretch in February. The Cardinals would struggle to get a rhythm on offense and would suffer their second worse loss of the season, 86-53. 

In the first quarter the Cardinals would get off to a quick start, going up 9-7 with 7:31 left in the quarter, thanks to an Ah'niya Tillery (Coppin Academy) layup. The Cardinals would find themselves down 15-9 with just over four minutes left in the quarter. The Cardinals would end the first quarter with a 6-0 run, with Ah'niya Tillery tying the game at 15-15 with 34 seconds left in the quarter.  

In the second quarter the teams would go back and forth in the opening minutes. However, Montgomery College would take control of the game in the second quarter and build a 15-point lead going into the half, up 43-28. 

In the third quarter the Cardinals would find themselves facing a large deficit. Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake High School) would score five points in the span of 36 seconds to try and help the Cardinals find their groove on offense. At the end of the third quarter, the Cardinals would find themselves down 30 points, 68-38. 

In the fourth quarter Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point High School) would start off strong, scoring four points in the opening minute of the quarter. However, the Cardinals could not catch up to Montgomery College, losing 86-53. 

The Cardinals leading scorer was Kayla Cabbagestalk, who finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Destiny Perry finished with 14 points, going 8-10 from the free throw line.  

The Cardinals are now 9-14. Their next game is February 27th at home against Alleghany College at 5pm.
