Cardinals fall to 2-2 after tough loss against Wolverines

On Saturday, November 19th, CCBC Catonsville women's basketball traveled to Newark, New Jersey to face the Wolverines of Essex County College. Despite a valiant effort, the Cardinals would fall short 62-56 in their first road game of the season.

The Cardinals headed into the game on an early season two-game winning streak, led by sophomore guards Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point) and Amaree McKnight (National Christian Academy), as well as freshman guard Ah'niya Tillery (Coppin Academy), who had all averaged 10 points per game in the first three games. Things looked much the same against the Wolverines, as McKnight went 5-11 from the field, recording 13 points, and Tillery going 4-13 and scoring 12 points off the bench.

This was the Cardinal's lowest scoring game of the season, having averaged over 67 points per game before Saturday. It seemed as if the shots just would not fall as Catonsville ended the game going 19-56 from the field. Another problem Catonsville had was turnovers. The Cardinals gave up the ball 21 times in the game, giving Essex County plenty of chances to score.

A bright spot for the defense was rebounding. The Cardinal's defense brought in 28 total defensive rebounds, Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point) with six and Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake) also with six.

Catonsville falls to 2-2 on the season, but this is nothing to panic about just yet for the Cardinals. Thanksgiving Break is this week, and the Cardinals women have an extended period of rest until their next game. The team will be on the road looking for a win once again as they face the Nighthawks from Northern Virginia Community College!
