Battle of CCBC Eastside Proves Tight
by Tyriq D. Smith
The CCBC Dundalk Baseball team faced a challenging doubleheader against CCBC Essex on Thursday, suffering losses in both games. Despite the setbacks, the Lions can take away several positives from the day as they continue to develop throughout the season. Their current record now stands at 0-12, but the team remains focused on improving with each outing.
The first game ended in a 5-3 decision, while the second game was a tight 2-1 finish, highlighting the competitive nature of both contests. While the final scores didn't go in their favor, the Lions showed a lot of heart and determination. They were able to stay competitive in both games, which is a promising sign moving forward. This growth in performance is something the team and coaching staff can be encouraged by, even though the results were not what they hoped for.
Pitching has been a bright spot for the Lions, with standout performances from some key players. Ricky Montelongo. was particularly impressive in the second game, striking out 7 batters and demonstrating his ability to control the game from the mound. His performance will surely give the team confidence that they can rely on their pitching in close games. Additionally, Coreem Wright had a stellar performance at the plate in the first game, blasting a home run and adding an RBI to his impressive offensive outing. He was not alone in contributing offensively, as Ethan Rainer and Ethan Early also drove in runs with their RBIs, adding to the team's overall effort.
Although the Lions didn't secure a win on Thursday, their resilience and growth are promising signs for the season ahead. They'll look to carry that momentum into their upcoming doubleheader against Frederick Community College on Saturday, March 22nd. The game will be a chance to continue building on their progress and hopefully secure their first win of the season. The doubleheader is set for 12:00 PM (Game 1) and 2:30 PM (Game 2) at CCBC Dundalk Baseball field. With continued effort, the Lions are poised for a strong stretch ahead.
