Cardinals Fall in Season Opener

Cardinals Fall in Season Opener

On February 24th the CCBC Catonsville softball team took the playing field for the first of hopefully many times this season. Unfortunately, the team would lose a close fight to Florence -Darlington Technical College and fall to 0-1.

Maybe it was first-game rust or chemistry that'll naturally build up throughout the season, but it feels like the team played an uphill batter of preventing Florence – Darlington from building a strong lead throughout this game.

What we can look forward to is the progression of Sophomore outfielder Abilgail Heagy (Eastern Tech) with her big-time home run and two RBIs. With offensive assistance from Freshman second baseman Katie Weaver (Eastern Tech) and her crucial triple, double play on the field, and three RBIs.

Florence – Darlington seemed to have the plan to mirror this performance with their own positive batting performance. Florence first baseman Mariah Stephens controlled some of this game with four triples and the team overall doubling their total hits with 10, versus the Cardinals' five.

At the top of the 6th, Florence – Darlington would manage to add three runs, which left the Cardinals with too little time to answer back with their own collection of runs to win in the end. The Cardinals would now look to bounce back in a major way for their next match tomorrow.
