Wolfpack Fall to Prince George's in Region XX Tournament

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Despite the 13th double-double of the season from Mackenzie Markle, the Westmoreland County Community College women's basketball team was defeated by top-seeded Prince George's Community College 61-40 in the Region XX Tournament semifinals Saturday.

The setback ends the Wolfpack's season, while the Owls advance to Sunday's championship game against #2 Anne Arundel, who defeated #3 Butler in the other semifinal. Sunday's title tilt will tip-off at 12 pm at Westmoreland, the site of the women's and men's tournaments for the weekend.

The opening two quarters saw the Wolfpack start ice cold from the floor, making less than 25 percent from the field, while the Owls built a 37-17 halftime lead. Markle had a big third quarter, scoring 10 points in the period, but PG continued to pull away and completed the win despite Westmoreland outscoring them 9-7 in the fourth quarter.

Markle's big third quarter lifted her to the 13th double-double of her season and fourth in a row, as she totaled 17 points and 16 rebounds. All six Wolfpack players scored in the game, as Hannah Hempfield dropped in nine, Julea Claycomb had six points and grabbed 11 boards, Hannah O'Brien finished with four and Mya Johnson and Brooke Gillum scored two points each.
