Potomac State women drop fourth straight to Cecil College

Keyser, W.Va. – The WVU Potomac State College women's basketball lost for the fourth straight time Saturday afternoon to Cecil College in Region XX Basketball action at Lough Gymnasium. The final score was Cecil 68, Potomac State 56.

The Catamounts got out to a strong start and led 17-10 after the first quarter. Erica Merrill and Kearstin Lucas provided most of the firepower. Merrill scored 8 and Lucas 7 in the first stanza.

The second quarter was exactly opposite of the first. Cecil outscored PSC 20-9, including an 18-2 point run in the middle of the period. The Seahawks held a 30-26 advantage at the half.

Coach Larry Kruk's half-time adjustments enabled the Catamounts to regain control of the momentum. Led by Merrill's 7 points, Potomac State outscored Cecil 17-11 in the third stanza and led 43-41 after three quarters.

Unfortunately for Potomac State Jayla Smith of Cecil found her rhythm in the 4th quarter, scoring 12 points in the period sparking Cecil to outscore PSC 27-13, closing out the 68-56 final.

Merrill led Potomac State in scoring with 19 points on 8-22 shooting and 3-4 free throws. Lucas finished with 12 points and Joy Agwramgbo-Noe had 11 points. Agwramgbo-Noe led the Catamounts with 12 rebounds.

Cecil had two double figure scorers; Kayla Thompson had a gane-high 22 points and Smith finished with 21 points. The Seahawks Trinity Wilson led both team with 13 rebounds.

Potomac State (9-9) will host Garrett College (4-12) on Wednesday, Feb 26th at 5:00 p.m. at Lough Gymnasium.
