CUMBERLAND, Md. – Despite cranking out 29 hits on the day, the Anne Arundel Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader at Allegany Saturday afternoon. Allegany walked off with a 10-9 win in the first game, and won the second by a score of 7-5.

Game One

AACC had 11 hits in the opener, seeing Kendall Thomas go for 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Addi Hurst hit a solo home run in the first inning, but Allegany responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on three hits and an error.

Back-to-back singles from Jayden Buchanan and Makayla Blake with two outs in the fourth cut the Trojans' lead to one, 4-3. The Riverhawks put on a hitting clinic in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead before Allegany got out of the inning with a double play.

The Trojans scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to get within one run before AACC plated two more in the seventh on a Thomas double and a line drive single to center from Rylee Gardner.

Allegany scored two runs on back-to-back singles with the bases loaded. Thomas then struck out the next two batters, but a double to right sent the winning run across the plate for the home team.

Thomas finished the game allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 15 hits. She struck out three and walked two.

Game Two

The Riverhawks recorded a season-high 18 hits in the second game, led by Thomas, who went 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Buchanan went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Allegany scored a run in the first on a passed ball. AACC took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Rylee Gardner double and a single by Grace Mozloom.

The Trojans responded in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good with four runs on a single and a pair of doubles.

Buchanan and Thomas each drove in runs in the fourth  - Buchanan with a double and Thomas with a sac fly – to cut the Trojans' lead to one, 5-4.

With two outs in the fifth, a bases-loaded error followed by a run-scoring fielder's choice pushed the Trojans' lead to three, 7-4.

AACC loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but the Trojans got the final force out at third to end the game.

Blake struck out five and walked three while allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits.

The Riverhawks return to action Sunday when they host Butler County in an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
