Myrtle Beach, SC (March 1, 2019) - Opening up their first games of the spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, SC, the Bryant & Stratton college softball team went 1-1 after suffering a 10-1 loss to Olney Central College and bouncing back with a 6-1 win over Frederick Community College on Friday afternoon.
The Bobcats move to 1-5 overall on the season.
3/1 - Game 1 vs Olney Community College (10-1 Loss)
After a scoreless first inning from both sides, Olney poured on three runs in the top of the second and held the Bobcats to another scorless inning in the bottom of the second.
Building on their momentum, Onley scored three more runs in the top of the third giving them a 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, sophomore Brooke Masi brought home the first and only run of the game for the Bobcats on a ground ball to the first base.
Leading 6-1, Onley CC tacked on four more runs in the top of sixth giving Bryant & Stratton their fifth loss of the season.
Freshman Rachel Myland led the way for the Bobcats with one hit and one run followed by freshman Kelly Schiller with one hit and sophomore Meghan Strasser with one hit.
Starting pitcher Alyssa Hild threw 5.1 innings giving up 14 hits and nine earned runs.
Relief pitcher Amanda Zane threw .2 innings giving up two hits and striking out one.
3/1 - Game 2 vs Frederick Community College - (6-1 Win)
In their second game of the spring break trip, the Bobcats earned their first win of the 2019 season.
A scoreless first two innings led to Bryant & Stratton scoring two runs in the top of the third after Strasser scored from third on a wild pitch. The Bobcats scored the second run on a sacrifice fly from Masi.
Leading 2-0, Frederick scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth cutting the score down to 2-1.
In the top of the sixth, the bats got hot for the Bobcats as they scored four runs giving them a 6-1 lead and the victory.
Sophomore Zane and freshman Olivia Miller each produced one hit, one run and one RBI.
Freshman Brianna Zook finished with one run and one hit.
Starting pitcher Mercedes Griesbach threw four innings giving up two hits.
Relief pitcher Alyssa Hild threw two innings giving up one run.
