HCC sweeps baseball, softball doubleheaders

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Hagerstown Community College erupted for 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Messiah College of Wednesday.

In the opener, Brandon Toloso had two hits and an RBI and Matt Kline and Hunter Martin each had two hits for the Hawks (23-7).

Kenny Daniels (3-1) picked up the win, while Patrick O’Connor pitched two scoreless innings in relief to get his second save on the season.

In the second game, Victor Norris had two hits and three RBIs and Justin Smith hit a two-run homer to lead HCC.

Colby Byers, Reid Wallech and Jared Durning combined for a three-hitter and seven strikeouts. Byers (4-2) pitched five innings for the win.

HCC 5, Frederick 4

HCC 7, Frederick 1

Hagerstown Community College swept a doubleheader against visiting Frederick Community College on Wednesday.

In the opener, Katie Gelsinger and Madison Bachtell each connected for a two-run home run in the third inning to lead the Hawks (8-13). Alexis Shearer had four strikeouts in the win.

In the second game, Shearer had four hits and two RBIs, Bachtell had two hits and two RBIs and Niki Marshall had two hits, including a double.

• PREP SOFTBALL

Williamsport 10, Musselman 0

WILLIAMSPORT — Amanda Curry had two hits and four RBIs for Williamsport in a five-inning win over Musselman on Wednesday.

Madisyn Renn had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, and Emily Talbert added two hits for the Wildcats (2-3).

Cierra Beaver went three innings in the circle to pick up the win.

Spring Mills 3, Boonsboro 2

SPRING MILLS, W.Va. — Spring Mills scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Boonsboro on Wednesday.

Karly Payne and Lauren Longerbeam each had two hits for the Warriors (3-2).

Grace Roupe went five innings and struck out three, while Payne (2-2) had a pair of strikeouts in relief.

Jefferson 9, Hampshire 4

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Makayla Miles and Tori Hanes each drove in a run for Jefferson in a win over Hampshire on Wednesday.

Hanes and Karli Snyder each had three strikeouts for the Cougars.

Petersburg 6, Berkeley Springs 3

Petersburg 11, Berkeley Springs 3

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg improved to an 8-0 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Berkeley Springs on Tuesday.

In the opener, Shyann Farris had two hits for the Indians (4-3).

In the nightcap, Katie Hoffman had two hits and drove in a run and Farris added two hits.

McConnellsburg 10, Southern Fulton 6

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Erica Hoffman had four hits and two RBIs for Southern Fulton in a loss to McConnellsburg on Wednesday.

Janelle Appel had three hits and two RBIs and Kierstyn Morton had an RBI for the Indians.

Brunswick 1, Frederick 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. — Bryson Shaffer pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts to help Brunswick beat Frederick in a nine-inning game Wednesday.

In the bottom of the ninth, James Marker singled in Tyler Polesky to give the Railroaders (5-1) the win.

Marker and Polesky had two hits each for Brunswick.

Musselman 10, East Hardy 1

INWOOD, W.Va. — Musselman scored seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away from East Hardy on Wednesday.

Hunter Burcker drove in three runs and Tyler Robinson had two RBIs to lead the Applemen (3-4). Elijah Miller and Davonne Mosby each had two hits in the win.

Martinsburg 6, Hampshire 3

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Martinsburg rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to beat Hampshire on Wednesday.

Hunter Martin had three hits and two RBIs and Kyle Farmer drove in two runs to lead the Bulldogs (5-6).

Nicholas Wright and Garrett Hobson each had an RBI, while Farmer (3-1) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Washington 15, Mercersburg 8

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Spencer Delawder had three hits and five RBIs for Washington in Wednesday's win over Mercersburg Academy.

Trey Virts had two hits and two RBIs and Culen Watson had two hits for the Patriots (6-1). Zach Depoy pitched five innings to earn the win.

For Mercersburg, Jayvien Sandridge had three RBIs.

Sherando 8, North Hagerstown 3

Sherando outhit North 6-4 in its win over the host Hubs on Wednesday.

Danielle Wells had two goals and three assists, Emily Abe had two goals and two assists and Maura Hevey had two goals and an assist for the Gaels, while Zoe Mutchler had two goals, five ground balls and six draw controls.

Also for Goretti, Victoria Baker and Rebecca Mason had two goals each, Juli Swarner had a goal and an assist, Sirri Akaya had a goal and Gigi Longo made five saves.

Makenna Luzier had three goals and three assists for Boonsboro in Tuesday’s win over South Hagerstown.

Maggie Luzier and Maggie Stanton had two goals and two assists each and Abbi Harrah had two goals and an assist, while Caroline Brunelle, Ella Mannix and Sara Bittenger added two goals each for Boonsboro.

Also for the Warriors, Cassidy O’Neil, Kaitlyn Rogers, Juel Selby, Sabrina Manganaro, Josie Carr, Sarah Meiklejohn and Katie Compton each scored a goal.
