Owls Split With CCBC Dundalk

The Prince George's Community College baseball team split their doubleheader on the road against CCBC Dundalk on Tuesday afternoon, April 18th. The Owls took game one 8-3 behind a complete game by freshman Kyree Clark (Washington D.C.) but dropped the second in 5 innings, 14-3.

The Owls tallied 14 hits in their win which was led by leadoff hitter Santiago Jimenez (Bayonne, NJ) who finished the day 3-for-5 from the plate. Prince George's jumped out in front with a strong 4-run second inning which Dundalk countered with a run of their own in the bottom. The Owls tacked on another run in the top of the top of the fourth before the Lions put up 2 in the bottom of the fifth to cut into Prince George's lead, 5-3. It looked like Dundalk was ready to threaten the Owls lead at one point during the inning with runners at both second and third when third baseman Jose Alvarez (Tampa, FL) fielded a hopping ball right at the bag. Alvarez managed to tag the runner attempting to retreat to third, and made the throw to get the runner at first for the double play to kill the Lions momentum and send the Owls back up to bat.

Neither team could capitalize in the sixth inning but the Owls were able to add some cushion in the top of the seventh, putting up three more runs to make it 8-3. Clark managed to keep the Lions off the board in the final half inning as he finished with his first complete game of the year, earning his second win on the mound in the process. Clark picked up 6 strikeouts during the win.

In game two, Prince George's fell behind 2-0 early but took a 1-run lead in the second after scoring three to open up the second inning. Unfortunately, that was all the Owls were able to produce offensively as they were outscored 12-0 down the stretch to finish the game early, 14-3 in 5 innings. Harley Carney took the loss for the Prince George's while both Isandel Ramos and Joseph Kline saw action on the mound as well. Oxswen Cotto recorded all 3 RBI's for Prince George's.

Tuesday's game one victory snapped a 6-game skid for the Owls who had been struggling offensively. Now armed with a recent win in mind, Prince George's will prepare for a packed weekend with home doubleheaders against Westmoreland County on Saturday before hosting Chesapeake College on Sunday, April 23rd. Both days will begin at noon.
