Men's Lacrosse: No. 6 Knights Down No. 2 Genesee

Baltimore County, Md. -- The Knights left CCBC Essex for Batavia, N.Y. last Friday at 3 p.m. in route for a Saturday meeting with the then ranked No. 2 Genesee Cougars. By Saturday afternoon the Knights had earned a 14-7 win, a victory that would propel them into a tie with Howard for the No. 3 spot in the nation.

Kyle Guenther (Patriot) led the Knights with five goals and one assist. T.J. Ross (Central York) also had six points on two goals and one assist.

The last time the Knights defeated defeated the Cougars was March 7, 2015, almost four years ago to the day.

Knights' goalie Travis Pereira (Lasalle Academy) was brilliant between the pipes, stopping 16 of 23 shots on goal. He has allowed just eight goals this season in two games versus ranked opponents.

The Knights (2-0) struck first and led 2-0 in the first three minutes of the match. By midway through the first quarter, the Cougars had tied it at two.

That's when the Knights went on a five-goal run to end the quarter up 7-2. Guenther scored three of his five during this time.

There was no scoring in the second quarter and the Knights took the same lead into halftime.

It was a slower start to the third quarter, but 3:15 into the frame Austin Evans (North County) put one in the back of the net. It was the start of a three-goal run and the Knights led 10-2 with one-third of the quarter played.

The Cougars (0-1) attempt at a comeback was haulted by the Knights.

While Genesee would add three goals in the third quarter, the Knights scored three more and had a 13-5 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Genesee outscored the Knights in the final frame, but only by a 2-1 margin, as the Knights picked up the seven-goal victory.

Next up, the Knights will host Brookdale Community College this Sunday. Game time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
