Knights Offense Shines in Win Over Bryant & Stratton College-Syracuse

The CCBC Essex Knights women's basketball team returned home and secured their 20th win of the season Thursday evening, defeating the Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Bobcats by a convincing score of 98-47. The Knights offense was rolling, with every player on the team scoring at least once. The Knights featured four players scoring double digits. F Adela Cecunjanin lead with 17 points on 7-8 shooting, Cierra McGinlay scored 16 points, Gissel "Gigi" Gamble and Paige Smith both contributed 14 points.
The Knights defense was stifling to begin the game, holding the bobcats to 2-14 shooting and forcing nine turnovers in the first quarter. The defensive efforts allowed the Knights to thrive on the offensive end, with seven Knights able to score in the quarter. Gamble led the Knights with 10 points, as the team was able to race out to a commanding 28-6 lead after the first.
The second quarter saw an offensive explosion from the Knights, as they outscored the Bobcats 35-17. Adela Cecunjanin caught fire, scoring 15 points on 6-7 shooting (2-3 from 3). Smith also added 11 points on 4-8 shooting and an impressive 3-6 from three point range. The offensive performance from the Knights allowed them to go into half with a comfortable 40-point lead.
Coming into the second half with such a lead, all the Knights had to do was maintain, and they did that and more. McGinlay was a spark from the bench. She found her rhythm in half. She scored 13 of her 16 points, having 10 of those in three minutes on 4-4 shooting (2-2 from three point range). That, along with the consistent defense from the Knights, allowed them to ride to a 98-47 victory.
As the Knights look towards the final stretch of the season, they will need their depth to continue to show up as it did this game. On Saturday, the Knights host Baltimore City Community College. Tip off is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
