No. 6 Men's Lacrosse Deals Potomac State 20-8 Loss

ARNOLD, MD – The sixth-ranked Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team won its third game in a row, defeating visiting Potomac State College of WVU, 20-8, Saturday afternoon at Siegert Stadium. Several AACC players had career days, including Joseph Niles, who with two goals and four assists bested his career-high points in a game mark with six.  

Caden Cote scored a career-best seven goals, and added an assist to tie his career high eight points. Stephen Moheiser scored four goals and added an assist to match his career-high five points. Rahsaan Johnson won a career-high 22-of-29 faceoffs to go with a career-best 14 groundballs for the Riverhawks.

Cote got things started with back-to-back unassisted goals for AACC (7-3) within the first 91 seconds of the game, setting the Riverhawks on a 5-0 run.

Potomac got on the board midway through the first quarter before the Riverhawks scored three of the next four – including a Jordan Kopf to Cote goal with .9 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Ben Blodgett scored his second of a team-high four for Potomac to open play in the second quarter, but AACC scored three more in the frame to carry an 11-3 lead into the break.

Ethan Gaeng found Niles midway through the third for a man-up strike. The assist was the first of four for Gaeng, all in the second half.

Blodgett scored twice in the third for the Catamounts, but the Riverhawks added four to keep the large lead intact.

Blodgett and Tyler Burgess scored back-to-back goals early in the fourth before the Riverhawks strung together four of their own. The teams traded goals to close the game, ending with a Conor Mackrell man-up score with under five minutes to play.

AACC scored twice on nine man-up opportunities while holding the Catamounts scoreless in five opportunities. The Riverhawks outshot their visitors, 66-23, including a 38-13 margin in shots on goal.

Potomac State goalkeeper Nathan Woodhill made 17 saves in a little over 55 minutes of action before bowing out to Cliff Nickerson, who made one save in the final 4:34.

Hugh Edwards made five saves, including a highlight reel-worthy doorstop save in the second quarter.

AACC also held a 45-14 advantage in groundballs, led by Johnson's 14. Potomac State turned the ball over 30 times, with 11 forced. The Riverhawks, meanwhile turned the ball over 16 times, forced on six occasions.

The game marks the end of the regular season for the Riverhawks, who start the NJCAA Region XX Tournament as a semifinalist on Friday, May 3rd at Harford Community College.
