Baseball Holds On For Win Over Christendom

ARNOLD, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team held on for a 7-6 win over visiting Christendom Tuesday afternoon at Skip Brown Field. The Riverhawks ended the game by throwing out what would be the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning.

The Riverhawks stole five bases in the game, led by three from Dyllon Barrett, who also hit an RBI double as part of a five-run effort in the sixth. Ethan Grieb went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the game.

Christendom (0-5) scored a single run in the fifth on an RBI groundout. AACC responded in the bottom of the inning with a bases-loaded single from John Greenawalt.

AACC exploded for five runs on three hits and a pair of Crusaders errors in the sixth.

Christendom used three hits and a late error to rally for four runs in the seventh.

After retiring the lineup in order in the top of the eighth, Sam D'Amelio drove in Barrett with two outs to extend the Riverhawks lead to two, 7-5.

Christendom scored one run in the ninth and had a runner on third with one out. A fly out to center secured the second out, and a fantastic relay to home to throw out that runner ended the game in dramatic fashion.

Reliever Matt Wisniewski earned the win with 1.1 innings of hitless work. Aiden Cassilly came on in the ninth to pick up the win. Jack Hogan, Luke Emory, Nick Rees, and Kyle Wortz all saw time on the mound in the Riverhawks' lone nine-inning single game on the schedule this season.

AACC continues its homestand with noon doubleheaders against SUNY Orange on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19.
