Softball Defeats Westmoreland, Falls to Potomac State in Weekend Games

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team hosted Westmoreland and Potomac State in NJCAA Region 20 doubleheaders this weekend. The Riverhawks swept Westmoreland, 8-0 and 12-3 Saturday. AACC fell to Potomac State, 8-0 and 14-0 on Sunday.

Kendall Thomas went 6-for-9 on the weekend with four RBI and four runs scored. Jayden Buchanan went 6-for-12 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Thomas held the Wolfpack to one hit in Saturday's first game, striking out six in her complete game effort in the circle. AACC built up a 4-0 lead headed into the fifth and ended the game by run rule with one out in the inning.

After giving up a run to the Wolfpack in the first inning, AACC responded in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs on five hits. The Riverhawks made it 8-1 in the second when Addi Hurst tripled and then scored on a wild pitch.

Westmoreland got two back in the third, but AACC responded again with a two-out rally of three runs in the bottom half of the inning. After retiring the Wolfpack in order in the fourth, Alexys Gardner led off with a double, stole third, and scored on an infield groundout by Madison Conlon.

Makayla Blake earned the complete game with three runs on six hits while striking out one and walking three.

On Sunday, the Riverhawks combined for five hits across two games, facing a dominant Potomac State squad.

Trailing, 8-0, headed into the bottom of the fifth in the first game, AACC got runners to second and third, but the Catamounts ended the threat with a double play.

Similarly in the second game, AACC got runners to second and third in the bottom of the fifth, but a foul fly ended the game.

Blake shouldered the first game loss with eight runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking four. Thomas took the second game loss with 14 runs on 18 hits while striking out three and walking three in four innings. Alexys Gardner came on in the fifth, allowing one hit while making two outs in the field.

Next up, AACC travels to College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 doubleheader against the Hawks.
