Cardinals Edge Out Patrick Henry for First Win of Season

The CCBC Catonsville softball team come back strong from their opener loss, with a close game-winner versus Patrick & Henry Community College 6 – 5.

The Lady Cardinals made an excellent first impression, with four runs scored at the bottom of the 1st inning. Sophomore outfielder Abilgail Heagy (Eastern Tech) made the most out of her two hits, as they both resulted in two doubles and a pair of RBIs. Freshman pitcher Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown High School) would come in clutch pitching all seven innings of the game with a win, two strikeouts and not allowing the easy home run score.

Patrick & Heery looked to have trouble building momentum because of the positive plays they managed to create for themselves. They would walk away with three runs at the top of the third with the assistance of a double from Bailey Daeke. After this, the Lady Cardinals' field stepped up and only allowed one run for the remaining four quarters of the match.

Entering the 7th inning, both teams were tied at 6 – 6. The Lady Cardinals were able to stand their ground and end Patrick & Henry's batting unit off the field without the last–minute score. Instead, the Lady Cardinals played upset as they would walk in with the last inning score to put this game away and leave out with a needed bounce back 6 – 5 victory.
