Schwarzmann’s 42 Carries Owls Over Camden County

Prince George's Community College women's basketball was back in Novak Field House on Thursday night, November 10th, hosting another divisional opponent in the Camden County Cougars. The Owls had moved up to the number 7 spot in the NJCAA D3 Women's Basketball Rankings following their week one win and played like it against the Cougars with another double-digit margin of victory in a 66-42 victory.

The Owls defense appeared to be the star of Thursday's win, holding the Cougars to just 7 points in three different quarters while causing 39 turnovers, but it was sophomore guard Vanessa Schwarzmann who stole the spotlight as she racked up a career-high 42 points to match Camden's entire team in scoring. Schwarzmann could not be stopped as she scored with ease across all four periods with 10, 8, 11, and 13 points, respectively.

Prince George's never trailed in the matchup against the Cougars which started with a made three-pointer from Schwarzmann who would not let up for the remainder of the game, going 9 of 15 from deep. Shwarzmann just missed out on a double-double as she collected 9 steals and also grabbed 7 boards in her best performance as an Owl.

Prince George's actually lost the third quarter 21-18 as the Cougars began to build some momentum but the Owls had already built up a large enough of a lead to hold off any Camden comeback attempt.

The Owls improved to 2-0 on the year with the win ahead of two more division 3 matchups next week, beginning with their first road trip of the year against RCSJ Cumberland on Thursday, November 17th.
