Owls Fall to Howard in Physical Contest

Prince George's men's soccer fell to rival Howard Community College Tuesday, October 8th by a final score of 2-1. The Owls (8-2-1, 7-2-1) came out quick, firing off three shots in the first five minutes but were unable to capitalize. The Dragons (8-6, 6-4) then tightened up to control the remainder of the first half.

Both teams showed their physical styles of play from the opening whistle, resulting in sixteen fouls committed by each squad. Prince George's also received four yellow cards, with Howard receiving one as well. The Dragons scored first in the 17th minute from a penalty kick after Prince George's committed a foul in the box to give Howard a 1-0 lead. The Dragons offensive attacked pressed on but freshman goalkeeper Austin Geier remained strong, recording nine saves in the first half.

The Owls narrowly missed on a goal in the second half when freshman Nathan Asamoah hit the left post on a shot in the 64th minute. The Dragons were able to add another goal in the 72nd minute when a ball was placed just out of reach to put Howard up 2-0. The Owls responded with a goal in the 78th minute when sophomore Temilolu Idowu found Asamoah on a long ball to cut into the Dragons lead 1-2. The Owls fought hard the last 12 minutes of play but were unable to rally, handing Prince George's their second loss of the season.

The Owls will look to regroup before heading to Union County College on Sunday, October 13th to face another Owls squad.
