High Scoring From People, Garvin Not Enough As Owls Fall To CCBC Catonsville

Prince George's women's basketball returned to Novak Field House for their first home game in almost a month on Sunday, February 9th to face CCBC Catonsville in a Maryland JUCO matchup. Entering the contest with only six healthy players, the Owls were able to keep pace with the Cardinals for the majority of the game but ultimately fell short as Prince George's was on the losing end of a 75-63 outcome. The loss drops the Owls to 10-11 on the year, including 3-7 in conference play.

The Owls quickly found themselves down 6-0 to start the first period but ended up turning things around as they finished out the final three minutes to even the score at 16 heading into the second period. The Owls were able to find points in the next period but allowed the Cardinals to capitalize on second chance points as Catonsville continually grabbed their own misses to create points. Prince George's entered halftime trailing 37-33 as they were led by freshman Kori People (11 pts, 5 rebs) and sophomore Tatiana Garvin (10 pts, 6 rebs).

The Owls stepped up their defensive game in the third period as they allowed Catonsville to connect on only 35% (6 of 17) of their shots from the floor but simultaneously struggled themselves as they were able to produce only 14 points to head into the final ten minutes trailing 53-47. Prince George's continued to fight back in the final period as they came to within two points of the Cardinals multiple times but could never take the lead from Catonsville as the Owls eventually fell short, 75-63. People (22 pts, 11 rebs) and Garvin (18 pts, 11 rebs) both recorded a double-double in the defeat.

Prince George's will look to rebound on the road for their next matchup against Chesapeake College on Wednesday, February 12th. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 pm.
