WOLFPACK WOMEN WIN DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE OVER BUTLER

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Paced by a 16-point, 18-rebound double-double effort from Mackenzie Markle, the Westmoreland County Community College women's basketball team emerged from Monday night's defensive struggle against visiting Butler with a 45-29 triumph in the WPCC opener for both teams.

The Wolfpack built a 22-17 halftime lead behind eight points apiece from Markle and Hannah Hempfield. Westmoreland's lead swelled to 11 points by the end of the third period, thanks to six more points from Markle and in the final quarter, Mya Johnson had back-to-back scores, including a three-pointer, as the home team scored enough to come away with the hard-fought victory.

Markle led all scorers in the game with her 16 points and her 18 boards included nine on the offensive end. Helping her on the glass was Julea Claycomb, who scored six points and hauled down 14 of her game-high 19 rebounds on the defensive end of the floor. Posting eight points apiece in the victory were Hempfield, who also grabbed 11 rebounds, and Dymond Crawford, who chipped in with four steals and three assists as well. 

The Wolfpack will get to enjoy their 1-0 conference record through the Thanksgiving holiday. Westmoreland will be on the road for their next outing, a road trip to the Community College of Beaver County on Dec. 2nd for a 5 pm tip-off.
