Pioneers Hosts Tri-Match – Saturday September 22tnd2018

       Butler County Community College – Butler, PA

              Final Scores:

                          Match 1: Butler County Community College Pioneers 3

                                         Westmoreland County Community College Wolfpack 0

                                    Set 1:  25-19 (BCCC)

                                    Set 2:  25-8 (BCCC)

                                    Set 3:  25-7 (BCCC)

                          Match 2: Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 3

                                         Westmoreland County Community College Wolfpack 0

              SET 1: The Riverhawks played well in the opening set for their day. Finishing with 9 kills, AACC easily won 25-10.

              SET 2: A few set-backs for the Riverhawks in set two – accumulating 11 errors in their attack, the Wolfpack were able to keep it a bit closer but still fell short, as AACC took the, 2-0, lead with the 25-18 win.  

              SET 3: As they re-focused and minimized errors, the Riverhawks would earn the 3-0 match victory, defeated the Wolfpack 25-14 in set 3. AACC would top the match with 12 kills for the final set.

              Brittney Guy (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 11 kills and 6 aces off the serve. Tara Gabrielsen (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) had 6 kills and 3 digs, Kathryn Hawes (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 2 kills and 22 assists, and Libero Serena Hochmuth (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) finished with 6 digs.

                          Match 3: Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 1

                                         Butler County Community College Pioneers 3

              SET 1: The Riverhawks would take the opening set against host Butler, 25-23, looking for revenge after previously losing, 3-0, to the Pioneers earlier this season.

              SET 2: The Riverhawks put up quite the battle in the second set but came up short, as the Pioneers claimed it, 26-24.  

              SET 3: The Pioneers quickly took control of the match during set 3 as they were able to take the victory while keeping the Riverhawks to just 12 points.

              SET 4: With the momentum on their side, Butler converted too quickly for the Riverhawks as the final score 25-18 would earn the Pioneers the, 3-1, match victory.

              Brittney Guy (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) would finish with 8 kills and 6 aces off the serve. Tara Gabrielsen (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) had 4 kills and 3 aces off the serve, Kathryn Hawes (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) and Tori Cain (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) each finished with 2 kills as well as 17 assists for Hawes, and Deanna Valerien (Gambrills, MD/North County) finished with 3 kills.

After the weekend tri-match, the Riverhawks are now 3-6 on the season, and 1-2 in the conference.

            The Riverhawks will have their toughest match of the season this week as they are scheduled to face the NJCAA DII Region XX Raptors of Montgomery College. In addition to the undefeated season (12-0 overall, 3-0 conference), the Raptors have only even lost 2 sets overall. The match is scheduled 6:00 p.m. this Thursday (9/27), at home for the Riverhawks, in the Jenkins Gymnasium of the Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD.
