Lady Owls Wrap Up Best Regular Season Since 2014-15 With Win Over Hagerstown

Prince George's women's basketball traveled to Washington County, Maryland on Monday, February 17th to take on Hagerstown Community College in the Owls final regular season game of the year. The Owls, who were back in action just one day after a thrilling 77-75 home victory over the visiting Beaver County Titans, picked right up where they had left off as they defeated Hagerstown by a final score of 70-56. The win lifted the Owls to .500 on the year as they posted a 12-12 overall record, including 4-8 in Maryland JUCO play. The Owls 12-12 record marks the best season for Prince George's women's basketball (based upon total wins) since the 2014-15 season when the Owls finished the regular season 12-9. The Owls finished the 2014-15 season with a trip to the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals.

Prince George's jumped out in the first period as they went on a 12-0 run on their way to building a 24-15 lead after the first ten minutes. Freshman Trinity Workman who went 15 for 20 from the free throw line in the Owls game just one day prior, had already hit 6 of 8 free throws by the end of the first period. The Owls continued to roll in the next period, hitting three shots from beyond the arc as they entered halftime leading 42-29. Workman went into the break as the top scorer with 16 points while adding 4 steals. Freshman Kori People was right behind with 13 points at the half.

Prince George's continued to create separation after the break as they grew their lead to as much as 21 points with 3:29 remaining in the third period after a Workman jump shot put the Owls up 55-34. Entering the final period with a sizeable lead, the Owls slowed things down and worked some time off the clock as they wrapped up the contest with a 70-56 victory.

Workman finished as the leading scorer with 28 points while adding 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks in a complete game for the freshman from Beltsville, MD. Sophomore Tatiana Garvin capped off the year with her 11th double-double of the year as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kori People nearly recorded a double-double as she finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds. People also added 5 steals for the Owls who had constant pressure on the Hawks all game.

The Owls will now turn their attention to this upcoming weekend when Prince George's travels to Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania for the Region XX Division III Tournament. The Owls enter as the number one seed and will face Westmoreland County who is the number four seed on Saturday, February 22nd at 12 pm.
