Coach Jennings Marks 700 HCC Wins In Front End of DH at Shenandoah

The Hawks traveled to Winchester, VA Wednesday for a doubleheader against Shenandoah University. Hagerstown (9-11) was looking to get to even 500 baseball with a sweep over the Hornets (21-2), and walked away with a split.  The Hawks win in the first game pushed Coach Scott Jenning's HCC win count to 700, marking another career milestone in his 23rd year at the helm for the Hawks.

Jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Hagerstown held a 6-5 lead through the top of the fifth inning, until the Hornets scored to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Hawks pitching and defense held Shenandoah to no runs in the sixth and seventh innings, while the offense posted 3 more runs to win the first game 9-6. Leading the Hawks offense, Blake Badman (24), out of DeMatha Catholic High School, went 2 for 5, hitting 2 home runs with 2 RBIs. Josh Clapsaddle (18) out of Waynesboro Area Sr. High School was 2 for 3 with a home run, a stolen base,  and and one run batted in. Chanse Phillips (8), out of South Hagerstown High School was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Cody Brick (16), out of Catonsville High School, was 1 for 2 with an RBI, and Dylan Moser (1), out of Smithsburg High School went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. On the mound for Hagerstown,  righthander, Bryce Romsburg (6), and lefty Maddux Grove (10) both out of Williamsport High School, along with righthander Ryan Jones (9), out of Manheim Township High School each threw 2+ innings, with Romsburg and Grove giving up 6 hits and 3 runs each, and Jones getting the win giving up 2 hits and no runs.

In game two, the Hawks gave up only one run through four innings, with the score 1-0 Hornets going into the fifth. Shenandoah broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth putting up 7 runs. A four run rally by the Hawks in the top of the seventh came up short giving the Hornets the 8-4 win. Chase Fisher (2), out of Northumberland High School, Blake Badman, Chanse Phillips, and Samuel Martin all posted an RBI in the game.

Hagerstown hosts Monroe College (New Rochelle, NY) today, weather permitting, at Hawks Field in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. Hawks weekend baseball, weather permitting, includes a noon doubled header at Hawks field on Saturday against the CCBC Essex Knights and a noon doubleheader on Sunday at CCBC Dundalk.
