If a 10-goal mercy rule existed in soccer, the Hagerstown Community College men would have reached it on Monday in their season-opener against Patrick Henry College.

After scoring three goals in the first half, the Hawks exploded for nine in the second to top the Sentinels 12-0 at South Hagerstown High School. They reached 10 goals with 17:15 left, and it was a game of keep-away after that.

Walter Saenz led the Hawks with three goals, while Ibrahim Doumbia and Kevin McGuire each added two.

Jeison Caballero started things off in the eighth minute of the game with a goal inside the 18-meter box after dribbling through the Sentinels defense.

Saenz followed up six minutes later with a header goal off Tico Witter’s corner kick to make it 2-0.

Doumbia’s first score came with 24:21 left in the half on a putback after Saenz’s shot hit the post.

Saenz picked it right back up again in the second half, completing his hat trick within the first 10 minutes on a sliding tip-in and a top-corner shot from deep in the box.

With under 30 minutes remaining, Doumbia showed off some fancy footwork and scored in the box to make it 6-0.

The Hawks scored their next six goals in the last 22:15, including one each from Tico Witter and Santiago Alzate.

HCC’s reserves even got in on the scoring action. Asongwe McCho-Nji was the first off the bench to score with 18:34 remaining on a chip shot in the box which made it 8-0. McGuire scored his first less than 30 seconds later.

Noah Eckell made it 10-0 with a long shot outside the box. Later, McGuire put the final nail in the coffin with 30 seconds to go.

Ibrahim Doumbia of Hagerstown Community College celebrates his first college goal. He scored another in the game’s second half.
