Men’s Basketball gets Defeated by AACC 98-92

Catonsville, MD- Despite having an eleven-point lead going into halftime, the Cardinals would lose their momentum and drop a conference match to Anne Arundel.

In the first half of the ballgame, Catonsville would post an impressive performance. They would shoot for approximately 54.3% of their field goals, and a whopping 61.5% of their three-point attempts. John McNeal would go 7-11 on field goals alone. However, where they struggled was free-throws. The team would only make eight of their 16 free throws, which in the end, those buckets alone could have made the difference.

The second of the matchup would prove to be quite different. The Catonsville squad would only have three attempted three-pointers, all of which failed. Their field-goal percentage would drop to 48%, while not horrible, would not make up for the lackluster free-throw percentage (56%). The Cardinals would end up with a 53.7% on their free-throws (22-41).

Sophomore John McNeal was the athlete to watch that evening, as he went 8-15 on field goals, 5-8 on three-pointers, and totaled 22 points. Andre McFadden would also post 22 points in his first appearance in a few games, as well as seven assists. Tamaron Hargett would record 18 points himself with nine rebounds, while Kevin Makle would record a double-double with 17 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocks.

In the end, it is easy to argue that missed free-throws was the killer. If at least six or seven more were made, the results would be very different.

The Cardinals look to improve upon their season in a Tuesday evening matchup on January 28th, at approximately 7P.M.
