Three-Point Barrage Lifts Penn Highlands over Wolfpack

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Although the Westmoreland County Community College men's basketball team outscored Penn Highlands in the second half, the Black Bears hit 14 three-pointers in the opening half and went on to a 122-90 victory over the Wolfpack.

The game was the first of the Region XX Tournament, being hosted by Westmoreland. The loss ends the Wolfpack's season, while Penn Highlands advances to the tournament semifinals Saturday at 4 pm against the #1 seed Prince George's. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the 6 pm semifinal featuring #2 CCAC against #3 Anne Arundel in Sunday's championship game.

The Black Bears were red hot to start the game, drilling their first five three-point attempts in building a 19-1 lead three minutes into the game. Penn Highlands would make nine more treys in the half for a total of 14, as they built a 75-35 advantage going into halftime.

The Wolfpack offense found its stride in the second half, as they put up 55 points after the break, but Penn Highlands' lead was too big. Westmoreland had the high-scorer for the game, as Dan McQuaide scored 17 of his 30 points in the second half and finished with 14 boards as well for a double-double. Also notching a double-double was Travis McCoy with 19 markers and 18 rebounds. Joel Lonigro finished with 17 and Jake Biros totaled 15 to round out the top scorers for the Wolfpack.
