Softball Comeback Bid Falls Short in Sweep by Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader at Navy Saturday, falling, 6-1 and 9-7 to the Mids. Rylee Gardner went 4-for-6 with two RBI on the day.

Game One

AACC scored its lone run in the fourth, allowing Navy to plate four in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the sixth.

With runners on second and third in the fourth, Makayla Blake drove in Addi Hurst with a two-out single to center.

Navy got rolling in the fourth with a leadoff double to right, seeing the leadoff batter score on a single to right by the next batter. With two outs, the Mids got two more across on an outfield error, and plated the fourth on a line drive to left.

An errant throw from the outfield allowed the final Navy run to come across in the sixth.

Kendall Thomas took the loss with six runs (three earned) on 10 hits. She struck out one and walked one.

Game Two

AACC scored all seven runs across the final three innings, coming up just short in the game. Trailing, 8-0, headed into the fifth, the Riverhawks scored their first run on a bases loaded hit by pitch, and added two more on a two-run line drive to left by Rylee Gardner.

The Riverhawks gave up a solo home run to the Mids in the fifth, but scored two on an infield error with runners on the corner in the sixth. AACC added another on a Thomas single to left to make it 9-6 in favor of the Mids.

Jayden Buchanan led off the seventh with a line drive single to left before advancing to second on a passed ball and third on an infield groundout. With two outs, Buchanan scored the Riverhawks' seventh run on a first pitch passed ball, but the Mids induced a fly out to left to end the threat.

Blake went the distance for AACC, allowing nine runs (four earned) on 12 hits. She fanned two and walked five.

AACC is back in action on Thursday, April 4, in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at RCSJ-Gloucester.
