It took 106 minutes but the Delta College women's soccer team advanced to the NJCAA Division III women's soccer semi-finals with a 2-1 double overtime win over Howard (MD) Community College on Thursday. The Pioneers, who are 17-0-0 on the season, fell behind in the first half when Howard's Madalyn Nichols bent a corner kick into the net to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. The score remained at 1-0 until the 65th minute when MCCAA Player of the Year, Claire Rousse hit Hannah Emington with a long pass that split the Howard defense and she buried it to knot the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied through regulation and overtime until the 106:35 when Maddy Boyes found Emington, who scored her second goal of the game to send the Pioneers into the semi-finals. Delta will face Nassau (NY) Community College at 6 PM this evening in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament Semi-Finals in Dryden, NY.
