Runs Hard to Come By as CCBC Essex Edges CCBC Dundalk, Sweeps Doubleheader

Both teams had strong pitching performances, but Freshman Drew Rommel (Fallston, MD / Fallston) threw a complete game to help CCBC Essex secure a 2-1 victory and complete the sweep over CCBC Dundalk on Thursday.

Dundalk struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Morales doubled, scoring one.

CCBC Essex responded in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead after Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL) singled down the left field line and Sophomore Cameron Brewer (York, PA) walked, each bringing in a run.

Rommel was dominant on the mound, earning the win with a complete-game performance. The right-hander allowed six hits and one run over seven innings while striking out seven and walking two. Dundalk's starter Montelano also went the distance, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out seven, and walking two.

CCBC Essex had contributions from multiple players at the plate, including Brody Carroll (Church Hill, MD), Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY), and Ethan Holland (Salisbury, MD), who each collected a hit. Holland also stole two bases. The Knights played clean defense, not committing an error in the field.

Wright and Rainier each had two hits for Dundalk, while Morales went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Dundalk turned one double play in the game.
