Volleyball Splits On Day One of Monroe Preseason Invitational

New Rochelle, NY - The Lions started off the 2022 campaign on the road in the Monroe College Preseason Invitational where they faced the host Mustangs first at 9 AM. Although they had some long rallies, the Mustangs ended up winning in straight sets. 

A little less than four hours later the Lions faced the Cougars from Frederick Community College. After dropping the first set 25-21 the Lions bounced back and won a hard fought second set 25-23. Raritan Valley would go on to win the next two sets to beat the Cougars 3-1 to give the team their first victory of the 2022 season. Freshman outside hitter Kelly Delaney led the team offensively with 10 kills in the match while fellow freshman middle blocker Alanna Da Cunha added eight kills. Sophomore Olivia Sims was effective in the middle with seven kills, Brittany Jensen added six from the left side, and freshman opposite Carolina Osses tallied two kills. Defensively the Lions were led by Delaney who tallied 15 digs. Sophomores Bri Rojas and Karis Lopiccolo also notched double digit digs as they finished with thirteen and twelve respectively. Sophomore setter Izabela Bar had 30 assists in the game to go along with 11 digs. 

The Lions travel back to New Rochelle for an 11 AM game against Nassau Community College and a 3 PM game against St. John's River State College.
