Ellicott City, MD. – Salem Community College and Howard Community College battled to a doubleheader split Thursday. The Mighty Oaks took game one 7-2 but dropped the second game 9-1 earning a split on the day. With the split the Mighty Oaks are now 3-5 on the season.
Game 1
The Mighty Oaks got out to an early lead on the RBI double by Vaye Savage in the first inning. Savage went 2-4 on the day with 2 RBI. In the 3rd Salem added 3 runs highlighted by the 2 run home run by Haylee Pickrell who 2 for 4 in the game with 2 RBI. Morgan Meachum added a solo shot in the 4th inning to go along with her complete game on the mound pitching 7 innings allowing just 2 runs and striking out 5.
Game 2
In game two Lanae Ben led the Mighty Oaks offense going 2 for 3 with an RBI double in the first inning. Vaye Savage and Cailtlyn LaGreca added a hit a piece for Salem. LaGreca was on the mound for SCC, allowing 9 runs, 6 of which were earned.
The Mighty Oaks will be back in action Sunday when they will host Lackawanna College in a double header. The game will be played at the Carneys Point Rec. Park with the first pitch of game one at 12:00.
