Rosedale, MD – CCBC Essex secured their fourth sweep of the season with a thrilling 6-5 comeback victory over Allegany College on Thursday at CCBC Essex. The Knights are now 14-12 on the year and 10-8 in Region 20, moving into sole possession of third place in the East Division.
CCBC Essex snatched the lead late in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) stayed hot at the plate, delivering a clutch single that scored two runs, sealing the victory.
Allegany College struck first in the top of the first inning on an 0-2 single by Psoras, putting them on the board.
In the third inning, Allegany College extended their lead to 3-0 when Pittman doubled to center field on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.
CCBC Essex tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by leadoff man Sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) and an error, making it 3-3.
Allegany College reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth when #50 singled, scoring two runs, to go up 5-3.
However, CCBC Essex responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Brody Carroll (Church Hill, MD / Queen Anne's County) doubled on a hit-and-run, scoring one run. Then, Cook singled again, bringing in two more runs. Freshman Maison Becker (Suffolk, VA / Nansemond River) pinch ran for William Hartman (Reisterstown, MD / Franklin) and crossed the plate for the game-winning run.
Sophomore Arnaldo Carrion (Wellington, FL / Wellington) started the game for CCBC Essex, allowing four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Sophomore Yariel Lopez (Cidra, PR / Bilingual Education School at Cidra) appeared in relief, keeping the game close. Sophomore Mitchell Hineline (Mount Wolf, PA / Northeastern) earned the win and collected the save in the comeback victory.
Leadoff hitter Urena led CCBC Essex with two hits in three at-bats. Cook and Urena each drove in two runs for CCBC Essex.
Pittman powered Allegany College's offense, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs from the number three spot in the lineup.
The Knights will continue their eight-game homestand at "The Castle" with a noon first pitch in another Region 20 doubleheader.
