Women's Hoops Powers Past Hocking

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team closed 2019 with an 82-73 win over visiting Hocking College Thursday. Sarah Healy had a career-high 31 rebounds and 20 points in her 12th double-double of the year.

Healy reached the double-double mark five minutes into the second quarter and finished the night with 21 offensive rebounds. Sydney Woodland added 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Autumn Foster-Fields recorded her third-straight double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Lacey Hinkle had a team-high six assists to go with 11 points and seven rebounds. Caitlyn Stanbery also recorded five steals to go with eight points, two boards, and a block. Reserve Ruth Marshall scored seven points to go with nine rebounds in 17 minutes on the floor.

AACC led, 24-11, after the first quarter, twice holding Hocking to scoring droughts of three or more minutes. The Riverhawks led by as many as 21 in the second quarter before heading into the locker room with a 42-28 lead.  

The Riverhawks maintained distance until the fourth quarter when the Hawks outscored them, 25-18.

Both teams got the majority of their points from the paint with AACC recording 50 and Hocking scoring 42. AACC had 16 takeaways to Hocking's four, and turned 33 Hawks turnovers into 24 points. AACC also outscored their visitors, 31-12, in second chance opportunities.

The Riverhawks (8-6) are off until they host Onondaga at 3 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020.
