CATONSVILLE, MD – Sophomore Davon Jones scored a career-high 31 points as the Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team surged past CCBC Catonsville, 98-92, Friday evening. The Riverhawks, who trailed by 11 at the half, outscored the Cardinals, 55-38, in the second half. The 55-point outburst marked the third-highest single-half point total this season for AACC.

Jones sank five of nine three-pointers and went 12-of-13 at the line in his career night. He also added eight rebounds (six defensive). Aaron McGriff scored 15 points and had three assists in just 22 minutes off the bench. Fellow reserve Michael Sullivan was three-for-six from three-point range, had six rebounds and three steals. Michael Cantrell added 11 points and four rebounds in his first start since December 19, 2019.

The pace was quick from the start as Catonsville mounted a 17-11 lead less than five minutes into the contest. The Cardinals extended it to as many as eight before AACC chipped away and tied the game, 29-29, on back-to-back layups from Matthew Kern with under nine minutes left in the frame. The Riverhawks played catch-up for the rest of the half, seeing another tie drift away as Catonsville extended its lead to 11 at the break.

AACC chipped away at the deficit, gathering steam off back-to-back three-pointers from Re'Sean Christian around the 12-minute mark. A Sullivan three-pointer capped a 10-1 run that saw AACC climb back to within four with eight minutes left, but the Cardinals gained momentum to extend their lead back to eight.

The Riverhawks weren't done as the put together an 12-4 run to take an 86-85 lead with 3:38 to play. A Jones three-pointer with 2:04 left was the dagger and AACC closed out the game hitting five of six free throws to hold on for the win.

Catonsville held a 62-40 advantage in rebounds in the game, and scored 21 second-chance points to AACC's 17. The Cardinals outscored the Riverhawks 44-28 in the paint, but suffered from a 22-of-41 performance from the charity stripe. AACC meanwhile finished the game firing 78.4% from the line, sinking a season-high 29 of 37.

AACC returns to action on Sunday, February 2nd, in a 3 pm game at Garrett College.
