Bats Come Alive as Genesee Sweeps Frederick

FREDERICK, MD. - The Genesee Community College baseball team improved to 8-4 on the young season with a 6-2, 10-4 sweep over Frederick Community College in Maryland on Sunday.

In the first game, Colin Noeth (Byron-Bergen) went six strong innings, striking out eight giving up five hits and one earned run. Jason Faynor (Lima Christian) picked up the save. GCC catcher Briann Castillo gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead with a 2-RBI double in the second. With the game tied, 2-2, Castillo came through again with another 2-RBI double. Deion Rosalio went 3-for-4 as well for GCC as every starter had a hit. Eliel Martinez, Jordi Agosto, Rodolfo Rodriguez, John Faynor (two runs, 2 RBIs), Jakob MacLeod (run), Frankie Santiago (two runs, stolen base) and Bryant Fontanez (run) all had hits.

In the second game win over Frederick CC (10-6), GCC fell behind 1-0 until Elizam De Jesus went to work. The freshman hit a 2-RBI single to give Genesee the lead, then with the score 3-2 in the fourth, he crushed a grand slam for a 6-2 lead. On the mound, Parker Cole (Bolivar-Richburg) picked up the win striking out five, Anthony Kanaval (Dansville) got the hold and Ryan Voss (Barker) got the save, coming in the sixth and struck out three of the five batters he faced. Martinez had two hits, two RBI's and scored twice while Agosto, John Faynor, MacLeod and Santiago had two hits and Rosalia and Rodriguez (two RBI's) each had a hit.

"We beat a very good hitting team today," said Genesee coach Skip Sherman. "Our pitching was outstanding all weekend and today, the hitting came around and helped."
