Hagerstown Deals Volleyball First Loss of Season

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 3-0 sweep by visiting Division I Hagerstown Tuesday evening. Freshman Karen Bautista-Carmona led AACC with an all-around effort of two kills, three aces, four digs and a pair of solo blocks.

 

Hagerstown won its fourth-straight match, defeating the host Riverhawks by scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-11.  

 

Sylvia Frye added a pair of kills, an ace and eight digs for AACC, while libero Tara Gabrielsen chipped in with a team-high 10 digs.

 

Hagerstown jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and never looked back, using five and six-point runs to easily go ahead.

 

The start of the second set was closer, as Bautista-Carmona tied the game at 4-4 with a monster kill, but again Hagerstown regained control, using a five-point spree to again go ahead.

 

Hagerstown took a 5-0 lead in the third set, but AACC forced some long, exciting rallies midway through, anchored by Bautista-Carmona, who two aces in the set, and Frye, who posted a pair of kills in the frame.

 

AACC returns right back to action, traveling to Delaware State for a 6:30 pm match Wednesday, September 11.
