Hagerstown Wins Five in a Row

Hagerstown Baseball notched 5 wins in a three day stretch of doubleheaders that started on Friday. The Hawks, now 14-12 (5-3 in conference), split with Monroe College on Friday at home, and posted back-to-back sweeps against CCBC Essex at home on Saturday, and on the road at CCBC Dundalk on Sunday.

In Friday's games against Monroe, pitcher's duels ensued. The Hawks faced Andrelis Payamps for six innings on the mound for the Mustangs in the opener, who allowed one run off of three hits, striking out eleven. Losing pitcher, Bryson Caballero (20), out of Catoctin High School, held his own against the Mustangs, pitching five innings, giving up 3 runs off of 4 hits and striking out six. Maddux Grove (10) out of Williamsport High School, came in for relief for 2 innings, giving up one hit in the 3-1 loss. Michael Hawbaker (5) out of South Hagerstown High School, now 4-1 for the Hawks, pitched the full seven inningsin game two, allowing no runs, only two hits, and striking out seven. Riley Jackson (3), out of Grace Academy, went 2-2 with one RBI in the 1-0 win.

Saturday, April 1st, the Hawks hosted the CCBC Essex Knights for a noon doubleheader at Hawks Field. In the opener, Cody Brick (16) out of Catonsville High School, went two for two with one RBI and Josh Clapsaddle (18) out of Waynesboro Area Sr. High School went one for two with one RBI. Noah Tabaie (33) out of Gaithersburg High School pitched a solid 5.1 innings giving up two runs off of 3 hits and striking out three to get the 7-2 win. In game two,  Chanse Phillips (8) out of South Hagerstown High School, went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs, along with Brick (16), 2 for 3, Clapsaddle (18), 1 for 3, and Samuel Martin (12) 1 for 3 each with one RBI. James Walsh (32) out of Jefferson High School got the save in relief.

On Sunday, the Hawks hit the road for Dundalk, MD for another noon doubleheader. Hagerstown got on the scoreboard right away with a single up the middle by Brick (16), advancing Clapsaddle (18) and scoring Chase Fisher (2) out of Northumberland High School. The Lions responded with three runs in the second and three more in the third. Devin Bollinger (11), out of Smithsburg High School, got the win for the Hawks, after he entered the game in relief in the fourth inning, allowing no runs off of three hits and striking out three. The Hawks offense rolled in 3 runs in the fifth and 6 runs in the sixth to seal the 10-6 victory for Hagerstown. Brick (16), 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, John Hill (4) out of St. Maria Goretti High School, 1 for 1 with 1 RBI, Kadin Holmes (37) out of South Hagerstown High School, 1 for 3 with one RBI and Riley Jackson (3) out of Grace Academy, 0-3 with 1 RBI exhibited timely hitting while Phillips (8), Brick (16) and Hill (4) lead the team in stolen bases to create scoring opportunities for the Hawk's 10-6 win. In game two, the Hawks and the Lions traded runs with the score tied 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning when Clapsaddle (18) doubled advancing Martin (12) and scoring Seth Bivens (14), out of Hancock High School. A wild pitch later, Martin scored and Clapsaddle advance to third base, making the score 4-2 Hawks. On the mound for the Hawks, Bryce Romsburg, (6) 1-1, out of Williamsport High School, was on the mound for the Hawks pitching 6.0 innings, allowing two runs off of four hits and striking out eleven.

Hagerstown travels to Gettysburg College on Wednesday for a single 9 inning game against the Bullets (14-9), a member of the Centennial Conference.
