NORTH EAST - Cecil College Baseball and the No. 7 Frederick Cougars combined to produce 60 runs during Sunday's two contests, resulting in one win for each side.
The Seahawks are now 20-19 on the season.
Game One - Frederick 17, Cecil 12
The Seahawks took it to Frederick early, scoring eight runs over the first three innings. The Cougars would retaliate in the fourth by plating seven, only for Cecil to grab four of its own to retake the lead.
After a quiet fifth and one Frederick run in the sixth, the Seahawks headed into the seventh just three outs away from an upset. Frederick proved to have other plans, plating another seven runs in the seventh to take a 17-12 lead. The Seahawks had no answer this time and fell short in the bottom of the frame to drop the opener.
Tyler Burger and Gio Malatesa led the Seahawks with three hits each. Ben Campbell and Brendan Aiken ended with two knocks apiece.
Starting pitcher John Smith went 5 2/3 innings and struck out three for a no decision. Ty Whittaker (1-2) was handed the loss.
Game Two - Cecil 18, Frederick 13
The Seahawks scored a season high 13 runs in the sixth inning en route to a stunning victory over the Cougars in Sunday's finale.
Cecil and Frederick traded blows early, with the Seahawks coming out with a 5-3 lead after three. Frederick took over in the middle innings, holding Cecil off the board while bringing home three runs in the fourth and a half-dozen more in the fifth to push ahead 12-5.
Trailing by seven entering the sixth innning, Cecil would explode for 13 runs on 11 hits to bust the game open. The Seahawks batted through its order twice, recorded 10 RBI, and scored three runs on Frederick's defense miscues. The visitors, trailing 18-12, showed fight in the seventh and scored one run before Chris Woods shut the door with a strikeout and a groundout.
Eight Seahawks recorded at least one hit. Justin Weaver finished a single short of the cycle and drove home five to top the Seahawks. Tyler Burger grabbed another three hits and two RBI.
Mike Preske (1-1) snagged the win from the mound, striking out five over 1 2/3 innings of work. Starter Colin Brosh punched out four Cougars over four frames.
