ARNOLD, MD –Anne Arundel Community College's men's baseball team defeated Valley Forge Military College in both games of their double header matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Riverhawks defeated the Trojans 16-3 in the first game, and although storms delayed and called the second game, it was official at 12-6.
Dustin Gosnell (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) took the mound in the first game, throwing for 5 out of the 6 innings, before getting the win. Facing 21 batters, Gosnell threw 9 strikeouts and gave up 2 hits with just 1 earned run. Spencer Courtney (Owings, MD/Northern) would come in to finish the game, facing the remaining 5 batters before the game was decided early, 16-3, in favor of the Riverhawks.
Batting strong, the Riverhawks had Samuel Ryan (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) who went 4 for 5 with 3 runs, 4 RBIs and a home run in the first game. Jacob Turpin (Linthicum, MD/North County) also had a home run for the Riverhawks, while batting 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
Sean Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) pitched the second game, throwing 2 strikeouts, allowing 4 hits and 4 earned runs over 4 innings. Tayvon Smith (Severn, MD/Old Mill) would face the final 3 batters in 1 inning to secure the 12-6 win for Healy and the Riverhawks.
Matthew Semanick (Ferndale, MD/North County) scored 2 runs while batting 3 for 4, Terry Green III (Pasadena, MD/North County) posted 2 RBIs, was 1 for 3 with a home run, and Mark Scarlas (Severn, MD/Meade) was 1 for 1 at bat with two RBIs and, as Green, earned his 1 run with a home run.
The Riverhawks are now 3-3 on the season after the double header wins, and have a loaded weekend coming up – facing Allegany College of Maryland for a double header on Saturday (3/3), and a double header against Mercer County Community on Sunday (3/4). All games will be played at home for the Riverhawks, starting at noon each day on the Skip Brown baseball field of the Arnold Campus.
