CCBC Essex Cannot Hold Onto Lead, Falls to Cayuga in Game 2 of Doubleheader

ROSEDALE, MD – CCBC Essex saw an early lead slip away on Saturday at The Kingdom, falling 10-6 to Cayuga Community College in Game 2 of the doubleheader. The Knights led by four runs early, but Cayuga rallied late to secure the win.

Early Offensive Surge for Essex

CCBC Essex struck first with a big first inning, plating four runs:

  • Freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez Pozo (Orlando, FL) singled to score two runs.
  • A Cayuga error allowed another run to cross.
  • Ethan Holland drew a bases-loaded walk, making it 4-0 Knights.

Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY) added to the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run to right field, extending the lead to 5-3.

Cayuga Rallies in the Late Innings

Cayuga tied the game in the sixth inning thanks to a walk by Diaz and a two-run double by Laird.

In the seventh, Cayuga took control:

  • Browne doubled, scoring one to break the tie.
  • Diaz followed with a two-run home run to left field, giving Cayuga a 10-6 lead they would not relinquish.

  • Freshman Drew Rommel (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over 1.2 innings, striking out two.
  • Austin Shiflett started for CCBC Essex, going four innings while allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking two.

  • Browne (3-for-4), Allison, and Laird also had multi-hit games for Cayuga.
